As a home visit physiotherapist in Sofia, Kaloyan Zarkov comes to you when you can’t get to the practice in Lozenets. Most often this means the first weeks after surgery, recovery after a stroke, or older people who find it hard to get out. Rehabilitation at home also has an advantage: you do the exercises where you live, with your own bed, chair and stairs.
What to expect
Visits are arranged by phone or email. Tell us what the visit is for, where you live and whether you can get up and walk. Have your hospital discharge summaries and your scans and test results ready.
At the first visit, Kaloyan assesses your condition and how you cope at home. Then he works with you: exercises in bed and on a chair, standing up and sitting down, walking with a walking frame or crutches, balance exercises and massage for tight muscles. He shows you and your family how to help with getting up and walking, and what to do between visits. A few days after the visit, Kaloyan calls to ask how you feel and whether to change anything. He can also advise on making your home safer, for example where a handrail is needed or how to clear the route to the bathroom.
All you need is comfortable clothes and a little free space. Kaloyan brings a portable treatment table and, when needed, a portable device. Which device he brings depends on the problem and is decided case by case.
When it’s suitable
- The first weeks after knee, hip or spine surgery
- Recovery after a stroke or another neurological condition
- An older person who finds it hard to walk and has lost confidence after a fall
- A bedridden patient who needs to keep their joints moving
- Massage at home, when you can’t or don’t want to go out
When it’s better to come to the practice
- When you need device treatments that can’t be done with a portable device.
- When you already walk well and can use the exercise room.
- If your condition suddenly gets worse or there are signs of an emergency, call 112 or your GP, not a kinesitherapist.
